Documentary is a kind of narrative art,relatively objective statement of the real world people and things.As a barometer of society and The Times,it also carries the imprint of The Times while recording the changes of The Times.Since the reform and opening up,the people’s living standard has been improved,and the production capacity and consumption capacity have been greatly improved.China has ushered in a new period in its history,and it is also a new starting point for the development of Chinese documentaries.Documentaries that adhere to the concept of truth and non-fiction have also become the witnesses and record of the social changes that continue to this day.To the Chinese people,the Yangtze River and the Yellow River are both mother rivers of China and the birthplaces of Chinese civilization and national life.They play a particularly important role in modern society and are an inexhaustible topic and cultural symbol.As a faithful record of The Times and disseminator of history,documentary narrates with objective and concrete images,and the development and transformation of any cultural phenomenon must be closely related to the political and economic background behind it.In the pedigree of Yangtze River documentaries,three typical works of different times have epoch-making significance."Words of the Yangtze River" was released in the early days of the reform and opening up.With a high audience rating of 40%,it created a new height for Chinese documentaries,enabling the audience to experience the beautiful scenery of China in an all-round way through the film,and inspiring the patriotic spirit of countless Chinese people.Twenty years later,"Revisiting the Yangtze River" tells the great changes in Chinese society and the changes of times in the past twenty years through the lens,from "talking" to "revisiting",reflecting the new image of the Yangtze River in the new century.In2019,Love along the Yangtze River depicted the natural environment and human life of the Yangtze River basin from a new perspective,while integrating thoughts on the harmonious coexistence between man and nature,reflecting the feelings of green development,ecological protection and feedback.Taking "narrative" as the theoretical basis and research entry point,this paper uses the methods of literature analysis and case study to sort out and clarify comprehensively and systematically from the four parts of narrative theme,narrative perspective,narrative structure and documentary creation concept,aiming at interpreting the creation process of Yangtze River documentaries from a new perspective under the discourse of narrative change,and expending that under the background of The Times,The Yangtze River documentary inherits and innovates the development and changes of the past hundred years in terms of history,society and humanity.This paper mainly discusses the narrative changes of documentaries on the Yangtze River since the reform and opening up in five chapters.The first chapter mainly summarizes the creation process of documentaries on the Yangtze River,which can be divided into three stages: documentaries on the Yangtze River in the early stage of reform and opening up,documentaries on the Yangtze River since the new century and documentaries on the Yangtze River since the new era.The second chapter focuses on the theme of The Times in each stage of the Yangtze River theme documentary,expounds the change of its connotation and function from the aspect of the documentary narrative theme,and leads to the analysis of each narrative level of the Yangtze River theme documentary.The third chapter clarifies the narrative perspective of the Yangtze River documentaries,and analyzes the main characteristics of the narrative perspective of the various stages of the Yangtze River documentaries since the reform and opening up from three perspectives: the presentation of the omniscient perspective in the grand narrative,the performance of the knowledge limiting perspective of the micro individual and the integration of multiple perspectives of "macro and micro".The fourth chapter analyzes the whole process of the evolution of narrative structure and function in the Yangtze River documentaries,and makes an in-depth analysis of the changes of narrative structure from single structure to multiple interlacing,from plate stratification to space-time intertext,and from linear to nonlinear.The last chapter summarizes the evolution of the creation concept of Yangtze River documentaries,including the germination of humanistic concept under the discourse of documentalism,the processing of details and stories under the perspective of new historicism,and the multiple presentation of ecological images in the context of realism,so as to summarize the innovation and breakthrough of the creation concept of Yangtze River documentaries in different periods.
