Originating from the traditional Han and Jin cultures with their symbolic image of rhesus that wards off evil spirits,the dreadful beast’s stylistic features and cultural connotations were transformed by foreign cultures,led by Buddhism,during the Northern and Southern Dynasties.With the development of the times,the stone dreadnought and its related cultural symbolism are being forgotten,while some foreign and easy-to-understand tourist cultural symbols are encroaching on the new generation of young people.As a symbol of traditional culture,the stone dread portrait is not only a blessing and an expectation from our ancestors,but also an eternal cultural treasure for us.This paper combines the results of existing research,and specialises in an in-depth study of the stone dread portraits,providing a comprehensive and systematic overview of them,starting with an in-depth study of the image of the dread beast in the shape of the stone dread portraits,exploring the culture and connotations of the ancestors,and integrating the local Chinese culture,not only extracting the specific content of the stone dread portraits themselves,but also analysing the meaning of the blessings and misfortunes behind the portraits,increasing the knowledge of the shape of the stone dread portraits.The accumulation of knowledge about the shape of Shi Fei’s portraits.The painting is a replica of the original image of Shi Fear,which was created in reduced relief on ceramic,using the Northern Wei Dynasty as a prototype.The aim of this paper is to explore the study of the imitation of the stone dread portrait form through four aspects,including their formation background,cultural connotations,analysis of artistic expression,the design concept and stylistic expression of the re-creation and the implementation process of the imitation.The first part explores the development of the stone dread portrait and summarises its development and stylistic evolution.The second part analyses and compares the artistic expression of the stone dread portraits in five aspects: image classification,imagery classification,stylistic features,material aesthetics and expression techniques,and summarises their patterns.In the third part,the artistic expression of the stone dread portraits is considered in terms of both design concept and modelling expression.The fourth part explores the process of implementing the imitation of the stone dread portrait form,summarises the problems faced by the artistic expression of the stone dread portrait form in ceramic design,and proposes solutions.
