A Report On The E-C Translation Of Excerpts From Sustainable Food Systems:the Role Of The City

Based on the translation and research of Sustainable Food Systems: The Role of the City,this report explores the translation techniques of agricultural science and technology texts by selecting chapters 1 to 4.This book mainly introduces how to make food systems sustainable by discussing the aspects of searching for a new model of food and agriculture,the problem of the mainstream agricultural paradigm,how systems change,and the earth system.Undoubtedly,it belongs to science and technology texts,which have numerous characteristics such as rigorous structure,clear logic,strong specialization,passive structures and long sentences.Under the guidance of the Skopos theory,this report discusses the translation techniques of science and technology texts from three levels: lexis,syntax and discourse.In order to ensure the accuracy of technical terms during translation,a variety of translation tools and parallel texts are used for verification,and the principles of fidelity and smoothness are fully considered.In addition,translation techniques such as conversion and addition,language transformation,inversion,and division are applied to ensure the readability and acceptability of the target text,the conformity with the thought and expression patterns of the target readers,and the achievement of the communicative function.As this report shows,translators should read parallel texts to acquire relevant professional knowledge before translating science and technology texts.In addition,multiple sources such as termonline,agronomy dictionary and so on should be used to verify technical terms.And the target text should be natural and idiomatic.It is expected that this report will provide some enlightenment and reference for the translation of science and technology texts in the future.
