| In the 21 st century,the information industry has achieved significant advancements,and electronic sports have emerged as a new evolution of human sports in the internet era,ultimately becoming a novel global cultural phenomenon.This emerging industry has unique spread and infectiousness worldwide and has had a broad and profound impact on society due to various supporting factors.As a result of the electronic sports boom,new professions have arisen,including electronic sports professional players,coaches,data analysts,referees,and commentators,all of whom are highly valued by players.In line with traditional sports events,electronic sports events also necessitate commentators to convey information to the audience.Given that electronic sports commentary is a novel industry,there are numerous issues that are worth exploring and analyzing in-depth in comparison to mature traditional sports commentary.This study centers on electronic sports commentators,with a specific focus on their language expression during “League of Legends” tournaments.Through an analysis of the current state of electronic sports commentators and their language expression,the study aims to address the following inquiries.What are the various language expression forms utilized by electronic sports commentators during commentary?What factors have led to the emergence of these language expression forms? How can language expression be innovated to cater to the present-day demands of the audience?This study uses documentary research,case study and content analysis to provide a systematic analysis of the current linguistic expressions of e-competition commentary,the internal and external factors affecting them,and dilemmas,and to make targeted recommendations on the current problems.The main body of this paper is composed of five sections,which aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of electronic sports commentary.The first section discusses the concept and development history of electronic sports commentary and presents an overview of the current state of electronic sports commentators from three aspects: gender,age,and educational background.The second section highlights the unique language expression forms in electronic sports commentary,including colloquialism,the use of internet language,fast language expression rate,and distinctive personal style,which constitute the stable and unique features of electronic sports commentary and contribute to its emergence as a distinct phenomenon.The third section analyzes the internal and external factors that affect the language expression forms of electronic sports commentary.Commentators continuously learn from traditional sports commentary while innovating themselves according to the characteristics of the platform and the tournament under the influence of new media.The reception and feedback from the audience structure and demand prompt commentators to constantly adjust their commentary content and style.Finally,the personal qualities,role cognition,and aesthetic pursuit of commentators also affect their language expression forms.The fourth section summarizes the difficulties in language expression faced by electronic sports commentators in China at this stage,such as fast speech rate,inadequate personal language quality,and issues of mispronunciation and unclear pronunciation,overlapping or silent turns,and subjective choice of targets and language expression,which can affect the audience’s viewing experience.The fifth section proposes strategies for commentators to improve their quality and cultivation.Commentators should strengthen their language norms,enhance their service awareness,and adhere to the unity of objectivity,impartiality,and moderate inclination.They should reconsider the conventional mode of development of traditional sports commentary,reconstruct the professional functions of electronic sports commentary,tell good electronic sports stories,spread electronic sports culture,and contribute to the electronic sports commentary industry’s advancement. |
