Su Shi who is the famous poet in Northern Song Dynasty composes about two thousands and seven hundreds poems in his lives, which contain comprehensive themes and contents, abundant thoughts and meanings and complete artistic expression, so it is no doubt that his poems are the representative of the whole poems in Song Dynasty. In this case, there is not lack of the researches about Su’s poems all through the ages. But for the researches about the classification of themes in poems, many researchers pay more attention to his responsorial poems, scenery poems and philosophic poems, ignoring his farewell poems. Hence, this dissertation tends to regard his farewell poems as the research object to analyze the poems’connotation and artistic expression and recognize farewell poems’styles and features in Song Dynasty.This dissertation consists of six chapters.The introduction focuses on defining Su’s farewell poems and summarizing the poems’themes, creation time, creation places and so on, at the same time, it also introduces the significance of this topic and the research status.Chapter one discusses local condition and customs in Su’s farewell poems, which classifies natural sceneries and humanistic landscapes. And on this basis, it also points out the features and characteristics of local conditions and customs.Chapter two analyzes the theme’s emotional tendency in Su’s farewell poems. Through researching his farewell poems, their emotional tendency contain four types:sincere parting emotion, expressing ambitions emotion, anticipant and advisory emotion, presenting parting emotion.Chapter three analyzes the thoughts’meanings in Su’s farewell poems and discovers Su’s complex inner world from concerning citizens, illusory attitudes and retiring from his career these three aspects.Chapter four researches the structures and skills in Su’s farewell poems from the art of composition. Su uses the unique methods to make his poem mature in art styles, who uses coherence, sets in authenticity and behaves only one meaning all the time.Chapter five analyzes the function of literary quotation in Su’s farewell poems. Through analyzing and concluding the utility of literary quotation, it mainly represents four functions:representing opinions, reflecting opinions, demonstrating opinions and referring opinions. And all of the application of these function makes all of the poems show abundant implicit meanings and profound histories.
