The friendship between Tang and Uighur began in 756,when Tang invited Uighur troops to help suppress the rebels of An Lushan. After the Anshi Rebellion was put down, the Tang Dynasty no longer existed after years of war, faced with social crises such as land wastage and population loss at home, and faced with frontier crisis such as the increasingly strong and frequent harassment of ethnic regimes such as Tubo. The Tang Dynasty had to continue to make peace with the Uighurs, trade and other exchanges,in order to close the relationship with the Uighurs,to cope with the internal and external crises faced at that time. The Tang Dynasty had made peace with other northern peoples twenty-eight times,of which there were six with Uighurs alone, which was the most special in the history of the Tang Dynasty. Its characteristics are as follows: First,Tang and Uighur and pro-Uighur are more active.Tang and Uighur married six times, the Tang Dynasty had three princesses for the Tang emperor’s own daughters, the Uighur also sent princesses into the Seri and the Uighur marriage for each other.Secondly, the relationship between Tang and Uighur people lasted for nearly a hundred years from the first year of Emperor Su of Tang Dynasty to the first year of De,when the Uighur princess Bijia entered the kingdom of Seri and returned to the kingdom of Tang after the Uighur regime was destroyed by Keiges. The peace between Tang and Uighur had a profound impact on both sides. For the Tang Dynasty, the peace with the Uighurs ensured the stability of the Tang border to a large extent, and also exposed the Tang to the influence of Uighur culture. For the Uighurs, the peace enabled the Uighurs to get a huge peace gift and reward from the Tang Dynasty, ensuring the continuation of the silk horse trade between the Tang and the Uighurs, and promoting the economic development of the Uighurs to a certain extent. Therefore, the reconciliation between Tang and Uighur had far-reaching historical influence. |
