A Report On E-C Translation Of Economic Text Digital Economy Report 2021 (Excerpt) From The Perspective Of “Faithfulness,Expressiveness And Closeness”

In globalization,data and cross-border data flows is increasing in importance,and the process of digital transformation is affecting everyone’s life.COVID-19 epidemic has accelerated the digitalization,thus exploring how to govern and harness the digital data has become a key challenge for governments.Under this background,the translation report selects and translates the first chapter of Digital Economy Report 2021-Cross-border data flows and development: For whom the data flow,which covers UNCTAD’s summary of recent trends in the data-driven digital economy.This chapter has 18,199 words,and there is no Chinese version at present.In the translation process,some problems are found in English-to-Chinese translation of economic text,such as superfluousness and unclear reference.After referring to parallel texts,relevant documents and dictionaries,the principle of “faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness” is chosen as the guidance.In order to achieve the standards set by this principle,namely,preserving the meaning of the original text,making the translation fluent and easy to understand,and meeting the style of the original text,this report deals with the differences in terms of expression habits and culture between the target language and the source language,and collects and translates the terms in the original text.The translation report focuses on analyzing the aforementioned problems and the solutions from three levels: lexicon,syntax and text,that is,under the guidance of “faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness” principle,using various methods or techniques to correctly express the meanings of words,the purpose of sentences and make discourse logical.Through the translation project,this report thinks that the principle of “faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness” is suitable to guide the English-to-Chinese translation of economic text,and can be used to solve translation difficulties.Moreover,as to the practitioner’s deficiencies in translating,this report summarizes and tries to give solutions.It is hoped that this translation report can deepen the study of economic text translation,and become a reference for experts and enthusiasts who want to understand the recent trend of digital economy and think about solutions to related problems in the post-epidemic era.
