There are nine conditional complex sentence structures in International Chinese Language Education Chinese Proficiency Standards(2021),which runs through the whole series of Grade Standards.This shows the importance of conditional complex sentences in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.At the same time,in international Chinese teaching,there are a large number of Chinese learning groups whose mother tongue is English or whose medium language is English.Although conditional complex sentences exist in both Chinese and English,they belong to different language families and there is no one-to-one correspondence between them.Therefore,the object of this study is determined to be nine conditional complex sentences in Grade Standards,and the object of investigation is foreign students whose native language is English.The suggestions of textbook arrangement,teaching and learning are also aimed at this kind of learners.This thesis is based on Practor’s difficulty level model theory.The difficulty level model is mainly used to predict the difficulty level of vocabulary and phonics.The research results effectively promote Chinese teaching.There is no study on the difficulty level model used to predict the acquisition difficulty of Chinese conditional complex sentences.In this thesis,comparative analysis method is used to compare Chinese and English conditional complex sentences,and corpus analysis method,quantitative analysis method and bias analysis method are used to verify the prediction,so as to improve the acquisition difficulty prediction of conditional complex sentences.In this thesis,we can also prove whether Practor’s difficulty level model theory is scientific in predicting the acquisition difficulty of Chinese conditional complex sentences,and it can be used as a reference for other studies on the acquisition difficulty of Chinese complex sentences.In this thesis,the acquisition difficulty level of Chinese conditional complex sentences is predicted based on the comparison between English and Chinese conditional complex sentences and the Practor’s difficulty level model.Then,the predicted results were verified with the actual acquisition of learners in the corpus,and the reason for the consistency between prediction and verification was mainly due to the avoidance strategies used by learners and the positive transfer effect of mother tongue.The main reasons for inconsistency include textbook arrangement,omissions and errors,corpus subject matter,etc.Finally,it clarifies the optimal acquisition sequence of conditional complex sentences,and provides suggestions for textbook compilation,teachers’ teaching and learners’ learning.
