Study On Egon Schiller’s "Life And Death" Painting Theme

As one of the most famous Egon Schiele in Austrian history,his existence is the continuation of the new painting concept and style,which has irreplaceable significance in the history of Western art.The Egon Schiele has devoted his life to exploring the meaning and value of human existence.Among his 300-ODD oil paintings,nearly 3,000 watercolors and sketches,the theme of “Life and death” is his main creative direction.However,to understand the meaning,it is not enough to probe from the work itself.Therefore,this article starts with the Egon Schiele’s view of life and death,and studies its expression in the theme painting of“Life and death”.This paper begins with the special situation of Austria-hungary society in the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries,the trend of thought in art,philosophy,the characteristics of traditional culture and the painter’s personal life,in-depth analysis of the Egon Schiele View of life and death,the formation of the background and reasons.Secondly,combined with the development of "Life and death" theme art,select representative works for in-depth analysis,to explore the inherent relationship between the concept of life and death and its creation.By analyzing the ideological and cultural connotations contained in the works,we can further understand the true features of the theme of "Life and death".Third,since the transformation of Friedrich Schiller’s state of mind at each stage is in keeping with Nitze’s “Three changes of mind”(i.e.“Camel”,“Lion” and “Baby”),this article compares the early,middle and late stages of Friedrich Schiller’s artistic career to “Camel period”,“Lion period” and “Baby period”,to analyse the ideological and spiritual differences under the different views of life and death in the Egon Schiele,and to explore the common spiritual core between the two,from a new perspective,it Egon Schiele the spiritual connotation and artistic features of the theme art of “Life and death” in different periods.Finally,this paper analyzes the influence of Egon Schiele works on 20th-century fine arts by combining the development of the theme of "Life and death" in Western art.This paper aims to have a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the Egon Schiele’s art and thoughts through an in-depth analysis of his views on life and death and an accurate interpretation of his works.At the same time,more clearly reveal the "Life and death" theme in the Western art of the special significance and importance,as well as the inherent relationship between art and human survival.
