Shandong Liberated Area Front Support Movement(1946-1949)

The Shandong Liberated Area is located in the north-south hub connecting North China and Central China.During the Liberation War,it was the key area for the Kuomintang army to attack,and it was also a large base for the source of manpower,material resources,and troops on the East China battlefield.The strategic location is extremely critical,and the task of supporting the front line is particularly heavy.In order to support the front-line troops,the masses put forward the slogan "Where the People’s Liberation Army goes,we will support there",and the former migrant workers moved to more than ten provinces and cities with the army.Under the extremely difficult living conditions,the masses were tight on clothes and food,donating gold and offerings to the front line,and continuously transporting grain and grass to the front line by means of shoulders,carts,and donkeys.Women processed military rations day and night in the rear Sewing military shoes and quilts,treating the wounded and sick,and even removing the door panels of their own homes as stretchers,the contributions of the people of Shandong to the War of Liberation cannot be ignored.This paper uses the existing historical archives and documents and the interview oral data to try to reproduce the historical picture of the people’s support for the front line in the liberated areas of Shandong during the war of liberation.Through five parts,the first chapter briefly describes the necessity of the front support movement in the Shandong Liberated Area under the emergency war situation and the huge demand for combat service supply in the front line,as well as the psychological change process of the ordinary people in the Shandong Liberated Area from full of concerns to the front line of voluntary support under the diversified front support propaganda.The second chapter combs the evolution of the mechanism of supporting the front-line work in the Shandong Liberated Areas,including the front-line organizations and systems in different periods,and believes that a rigorous and systematic front-line work operation mechanism is the premise and guarantee for the smooth development of the front-line movement.The third chapter discusses how the people of Shandong Liberated Areas,who have strong feelings of support for the front,overcome the backward production and transportation conditions and made support and contributions to the front war in terms of materials,transportation and communications.The fourth chapter presents the multiple contradictions in the front support movement and the response of Shandong Liberated Areas to the situation.The fifth chapter makes a general evaluation and summary of the front support movement in Shandong Liberated Areas,expounds its shaping power for the concept of honor and collective consciousness of the front support in rural society,its contribution to the final victory of the Communist army in the liberation war,and its contribution and influence on the construction of the front support work in other regions,especially in the newly liberated areas.
