| With the rapid development of the global economy, climate change has become a major environmental problem threatening human survival and sustainable development. In the first chapter of Environmental Policy and Public Health: Principal Health Hazards and Mitigation, the author analyzes the current status of global climate change, the causes of climate change and its impact on ecosystems, agricultural production and human health, and summarizes the U.S.climate change policies and international conferences on climate change. At present,China is in an important period of building ecological civilization and implementing sustainable development strategy. The translation of this book can provide a reference for the management of domestic climate issues and enhance public awareness of climate change.Against this background, the translator selects the first chapter of Environmental Policy and Public Health: Principal Health Hazards and Mitigation,Climate Change Crisis as the source language text, and explores the translation strategies of environmental science texts under the guidance of Newmark’s translation theory. From the perspective of linguistic function and Typology Theory,Environmental Policy and Public Health: Principal Health Hazards and Mitigation is an environmental science text with both informative function and expressive function. On the one hand,it contains a large amount of case data and objective facts and belongs to informative text, where the translation should be guided by Communicative Translation; On the other hand,it contains lots of subjective analysis and thinking of the author,as well as various regulations from national policy documents, which makes it fall into the category of expressive text, where the translation should be guided by Semantic Translation.Although the focuses of Communicative Translation and Semantic Translation are different,Newmark’s translation theory requires the translators to treat the two as a whole. Therefore, the translator integrates Newmark’s Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation, discusses the translation strategies of technical terms, demonstrative pronouns, static expressions, complex sentences and passive sentences in environmental science texts, and summarizes them in the hope of deepening the understanding of the difficulties and translation strategies of environmental science texts and providing references for the translation of environmental science texts in the domestic translation community. |
