With the development of globalization, the economic and cultural exchanges between China and other countries are getting closer. The introduction of excellent popular science works from developed countries has become an important measure to convey the latest scientific knowledge to the public.Popular science translation can truly spread scientific spirit and thought, which is of great significance to promote the development of national economy, science and technology. The translation material of this project is excerpted from The Insect Crisis: The Fall of the Tiny Empires that Run the World,an ecological popular science book that tells how the silent extinction of global insect populations threatens the survival of wild birds and affects human food security, alerting people to the imminent disaster. The material possesses four unique properties: scientificity, literariness, popularity and interestingness. On the basis of analysis of stylistic features and research of translation theories,Skopos theory is selected to guide this translation practice, which is suitable for guiding non-literary pragmatic translation.Within the framework of the three rules of Skopos theory, this report mainly analyzes the difficulties and problems in translation practice from lexical, syntactic and discourse level as well as the corresponding translation methods. It is hoped that this translation practice can help enrich the text translation practice guided by Skopos theory and provide some reference for the strategies and techniques of E-C translation of ecological popular science texts. At lexical level, the Skopos rule and fidelity rule are followed and strategies such as literal translation with annotation, free translation, part of speech conversion and domestication are adopted. At syntactic level, methods such as separation and reorganization, voice conversion and information supplement are employed. At discourse level, the coherence rule is followed. Two cohesive devices of personal reference and nominal substitution are analyzed and the method of addition is applied to represent the hidden logic of the source text.
