A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Great Derangement (Excerpts)

In recent years,frequent extreme weather events have caused great losses to human security and the global economic system.Therefore,more and more attention has been paid to ecological issues.The book—The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable by the Indian author Amitav Ghosh,analyzes the ecological issues from literature,history,and politics.This translation practice report chooses the third part of the book as the source text,guided by the Eco-Translatology theory,and analyzes the adaptive selection in translation practice from the perspective of the “three-dimensional transformation” of linguistic dimension,cultural dimension,and communicative dimension,in order to provide a highly readable translation for the target text readers.In the linguistic dimension,this report is mainly concerned with the barriers brought about by the linguistic differences between Chinese and English,so the adaption is made according to the linguistic characteristics of the source language and the target language at the lexical level and syntactic level.In the cultural dimension,this report focuses on ways to accurately convey the cultural elements of the source text and provide assistance to the readers with alleviating the cultural barriers to achieve a good reading experience,hence the additional translation notes and four-word idioms that fit the language habits of the target text readers.In the communicative dimension,this report employs two ways of processing—diction and inversion to realize the communicative intention of the author.It is hoped that this report can provide a reference for the translation of ecological texts.
