Youth power is an important spiritual core in revolutionary historical dramas.General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out in the report of the 19 th Party Congress that "when youth thrive, the country thrives, and when youth are strong, the country is strong. If the young generation has ideals, skills and responsibilities, the country will have a future and the nation will have hope".While grasping the mainstream values and ideology, the new mainstream dramas on revolutionary and historical themes have achieved outstanding ratings and discussions on multiple platforms and ports. How the three-dimensional and diversified youth group is shaped from a new perspective is of research significance and value. This paper takes "The Age of Awakening" as a case study, which meets the criteria of "mainstream value+ mainstream market" for new mainstream dramas on revolutionary history, and uses the youth group in the drama as the object of analysis. The times made heroes, and such a youthful force emerged in China a century ago.The study was conducted through documentary analysis and case study method. The "hero’s journey" theory is used to explore the growth journey of young people in the new mainstream drama on revolutionary history, and the extent to which different archetypal characters such as heroes and mentors can be molded.Through the different types of space in spatial narrative theory,we explore the youth group in space and the meaning behind it is another deepening of character building. The youth portrait is an important component of the visual image space and the main character in the historical memory. The spatial image restores the history, deepens the theme the characters. How to connect history and reality, the people in the drama and the audience is the key point of "truth and emotion".In the main part of this paper,we first discuss the suitability of the narrative theory of "Hero’s Journey" and the new mainstream drama on revolutionary history, and then analyze in depth the image of youth in the youth portrait by using the twelve stages and eight archetypal models. The growth journey of youth characters is the narrative core of character building. It provides details and stages of narrative lines for the vivid, growing and three-dimensional shaping of youth group portraits, and at the same time provides feasible models for the typology and in-depth shaping of youth images through the restoration of archetypal characters.Secondly,we analyze the connection between people and society in the regional space, social space and cultural space constructed in the new mainstream drama of revolutionary history from the theory of spatial narrative, and explore how the image of young people is deepened and enriched in the construction of space, and finally,we focus on the restoration and significance of youth group image and memory.Youth portraits are an important part of the presentation of real historical memory, which is the fundamental premise of national identity. The reasonable selection of real characters and events, the realistic restoration of scenes and details, and the addition of multiple emotional factors make the characters more flesh and blood. The successful portrayal of the youth group is more likely to create a sense of identity among the young audience, and subconsciously inspire the faith and ideals of the youth of today.Through the connection of triple perspectives,it provides a new approach to the shaping of youth groups in future revolutionary historical dramas.
