A Study Of Disaster Stories In Shanxi,Shaanxi And Henan

The paper takes the texts of folk disaster stories in the Shanxi volume of the Chinese Folk Tale Collection,the Shaanxi volume of the Chinese Folk Tale Collection and the Henan volume of the Chinese Folk Tale Collection,as well as some regional volumes,as its object of study,analyses the types,thematic implications and narrative characteristics of folk disaster stories in Shanxi,Shaanxi and Henan,explores the ways in which people remember disasters,analyzes the rituals,disaster scene descriptions and the psychological activities of the people contained in the disaster story texts,summarizes the wisdom of the people in disaster prevention and mitigation,and explores the practical significance of folk disaster stories.This thesis consists of four main parts.In the first part,the texts of disaster stories collected from the folk tale collections of the three provinces of Shanxi,Shaanxi and Henan are divided into disaster types,and the stories are analyzed in the light of local geographical and climatic conditions,so as to explore the specific effects of different types of disasters on people’s lives and production,and to draw a preliminary picture of disasters in the collective memory of the people.In the second part,the specific plots of the folk disaster stories from Shanxi,Shaanxi and Henan provinces are categorized and analyzed one by one,and the main plots of the disaster stories are summarized into four parts: the causes of the disasters,the forecasts and warnings of the disasters,the descriptions of the disaster scenes and the ways of coping with the disasters.By combining the images of gods,animals and human beings with their different identities,the text explores the people’s perceptions and interpretations of unknown forces and their struggles against suffering,and draws a complete picture of the disaster in their collective memory.The third section focuses on the narrative characteristics of folk disaster story texts,exploring and appreciating their thematic complexity,the fantastical imagination of their content,and the distinctive regional characteristics of their language and content in the context of specific story texts.The fourth section is devoted to the expansion of the value of disaster story study,with the manifestation of the national spirit and national cultural concepts in folk disaster memory,the wisdom of the people in disaster memory and the specific disaster relief measures,as well as the cultural unity of the three provinces embedded in them,all of which give the study of disaster stories practical significance and offer many lessons for the contemporary field of disaster prevention and control.By interpreting and analyzing the genres,plots and narrative characteristics of folk disaster story texts in Shanxi,Shaanxi and Henan provinces,the thesis draws a picture of the collective memory of people in disasters,explores the valuable spiritual qualities and unique wisdom of people in disaster stories,and explores the reflection of folk narrative on reality.
