| Gerhard Richter was one of the greatest painters of the late 20 th century, born during the Second World War in a time of economic and social depression in Germany, when art was tasked with reviving culture. He was one of the few painters at home and abroad who could paint both figuratively and abstractly, and was loved and emulated by many painters in China and abroad. His artistic style is very distinctive, and his methods and forms of expression are very different from traditional painting. From the 1960 s onwards,Richter explored many forms of abstract painting, and no single school of art can accurately define his style, which has always been “de-stylised” and pure. This paper is divided into three chapters: the first chapter is the selection and proposal of the graduation creation, describing the purpose and significance of this thesis, the current state of research at home and abroad, research methods, ideas and the presentation of the graduation results. The second chapter is to outline the development stages of Richter’s abstract painting research and expression techniques,to sort out and outline the early stages of Richter’s artistic development, the germination and maturity of abstract art,and at the same time,to specifically analyse Richter’s artistic philosophy, creative methods and summarise the characteristics of his artistic language. The third chapter summarises the conception of the author’s oil paintings and the techniques he drew on in his creation, analysing them in three areas: the expression and application of composition, the application of the technique of “ambiguity” and the expression of colour and personal emotion.Based on the study of Richter’s painting theories, the author’s unique ideas and understandings are incorporated, resulting in his own style of creation, which expresses the unique style and vitality of the ancient city. |
