A Comparative Study Of The Different Texts Of The Xiang Jiao Pian Hai And Implications For Teaching Chinese Characters To Foreigners

The " Xiang Jiao Pian Hai" is a character book compiled by Zhao Xinpan and Li Deng in the Ming Dynasty.It is based on the book " Si Sheng Pian Hai" written by Han Xiaoyan and Han Daozhao.The "Xiang Jiao Pian Hai" is a revision of the "Si Sheng Pian Hai" in terms of character forms,character sounds,character meanings,and radicals,and has achieved a high level of success by correcting errors while making innovations.However,the book has not attracted enough attention from the academic community.In this paper,through a comparative study of two editions of the " Xiang Jiao Pian Hai",the Wanli version and the Chongzhen version,it is found that compared with the Wanli version,the Chongzhen version not only changes the layout considerably,but also has more obvious textual differences,which are mainly reflected in three aspects: stroke form,strokes,and parts,and mainly in strokes.Through an in-depth analysis of the reasons for the differences between the versions,the paper provides useful insights into the teaching of Chinese characters to foreigners from the perspectives of orthographic awareness and Chinese character tracing.The whole paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction,which introduces the reasons for the selection of the topic,compares the current situation of domestic and foreign research,and explains the research method and innovation points of this paper;the second chapter gives a detailed introduction to " Xiang Jiao Pian Hai" from the aspects of authorship,compilation style and book formation,edition,and its status in the history of character books;the third chapter mainly introduces the phenomenon of dissimilarity between the Wanli and Chongzhen editions,and explains it from three aspects: stroke form,stroke and parts.Chapter 4 analyzes the reasons for the divergent texts from three aspects;Chapter 5 proposes countermeasures based on the problems in teaching Chinese characters found in the comparison of the divergent texts in the "Xiang Jiao Pian Hai".The final part of the paper concludes with conclusions,shortcomings,and prospect.
