| This paper is an English-Chinese translation practice report. The source text is excerpted from the novel The Ogress and the Orphans written in 2022 by Kelly Barnhill. This novel is an excellent book for young people with interesting plots. The language style is vivid and humorous. So far,no Chinese translation of this book has been published. Therefore, the translator hopes to increase Chinese readers’ understanding of the original author through the translation. This report uses Vermeer’s Skopos Theory as the guide to explore the difficulties in the translation of children’s literature, and proposes specific translation strategies.According to Skopos Theory, the purpose of translation plays a decisive role in intercultural communication, and the purpose of translation also changes with the change of the target readers. If the target readers are children, the translation should conform to the children’s psychological characteristics, comprehension ability and reading needs. The translator combines the three rules of Skopos Theory, summarizes some problems and the measures through typical induction in typical cases. In the process of translation, the translator uses four-character,onomatopoeia,personification and other methods to increase children’s reading interest and achieve emotional resonance;uses addition and omission to adapt to the reading habits of target readers;uses literal translation, footnote and other methods to achieve cultural exchange and broaden children’s horizons. It is found that translation is not an easy task. When translating children’s literature,we must pay attention to the translation of details and choose different translation strategies according to different contexts. |
