An E-C Translation Report On Matrix(Excerpts)

This English-Chinese translation practice is based on Matrix,a feminist novel published in 2021 by American writer Lauren Groff.The novel is divided into three parts,which tells the life experiences of the heroine Marie in her youth,middle age and later years.The excerpts are from Chapter Two of Part Three,the climax of the storyline.This translation practice report consists of five chapters.Chapter One introduces the background,structure,purpose and significance of the translation report.Chapter Two describes the process of translation.In Chapter Three,the features of the source text are summarized in terms of lexical,syntactical and rhetorical levels.In Chapter Four,a variety of translation methods are adopted and relevant cases are analyzed in depth to make the translation more in line with the reading habits of the target language readers.In view of the features of a large number of religious nouns at the lexical level,the methods of free translation and literal translation with annotation are adopted,and semantic selection and extension are used for the feature of copious polysemous words.At the syntactic level,there are lots of passive sentences and difficult sentences of action and appearance description,and the conversion of voices,omission,and reference are adopted.At the rhetorical level,metaphors and euphemisms are commonly used in the source text.According to the context,free translation and substitution are adopted flexibly to achieve the rhetorical effect of the original text.The last part of the report summarizes the translation practice.Through this translation practice,the translator has flexibly used a variety of translation methods,so that the target language readers can get the same reading experience as the source text readers,hoping to provide some references for the translation of feminist novels in the future.
