A Study On The Translation Of The Name Of Herbal Cuisines

Along with the rapid development of scientific technologies and economy,people’s living standard has been risen greatly around the world,which attract more and more attention to health care.With China becoming more and more open,scholars abroad begin to pay attention to health preservation function of Chinese medicine.Chinese health regimen is a great treasure of Chinese culture,aiming at studying and elaborating the law of development of human life,putting forward basic theories and methods for preventing diseases,strengthening our physiques and prolonging life.Herbal cuisine,which we also call dietary therapy is an important aspect in Chinese health regimen.There are great differences between Chinese and western cultures,which lead to the occurrence of many problems and difficulties in translating Chinese herbal cuisines.So the English translation of the name of herbal cuisines poses great influence on the spread of Chinese health preservation.A good translation will promote while a bad one will obstruct the spread and development of Chinese health preservation.In addition,it should also be noticed that the name of Chinese herbal cuisine has its own characteristics different from other texts.This report is based on a translation practice of a book Huangdi’s Internal Classic Regimen According to The 24 Solar Terms.The translator came across many problems in the process of translating the name of herbal cuisine,and put forward corresponding translation strategies and solutions after analysis and summarizing.The conclusions of the report are as follows: The name of herbal cuisine can be divided into different categories according to different characteristics after summarizing and analyzing.And based on the analysis,different translation strategies such as literal translation,free translation and literal translation with annotation and so on according to different characteristics of the name of the herbal cuisine are put forward.
