The report is based on A Year Without A Name,a biographical novel of sexual minorities written by American activist Cyrus Grace Dunham.Mirroring the writer’s spiritual life and personal experience, the novel is heavily involved with issues sensitive even in the United States, posing further dilemma for the author to handle the social and cultural distinctions for the target readers.According to Katharina Reiss’ s text typology theory,it is clear that the source text is an expressive text— the writer’s experience and mentality change runs through the novel as the storyline to resurrect her life and inner world. Therefore, the report discusses the expression of special words in the field of sexual minorities, the pronoun translation of biography and the transmission of implied meaning. As for the translation of special words, the author adopts the annotation and footnote strategies to express the deep meaning of special words;regarding the translation of personal pronouns, the author adopts omission and substitution to ensure the readability of the translation;as to the transmission of implied meaning, the author combines contextual context, situational context and cultural context to solve practical problems. The translation practice enables the author to gain insight into the field of sexual minorities and ability in biography translation. It is keenly anticipated that the report might provide references for translators in this field.
