A Study On The Creation Of BBC Documentary On China

For a long time,Chinese culture with its long history and profound connotation has attracted the attention of the world.The British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC)is a prominent representative of this.Over the years,a large number of Chinese documentaries have been produced.Due to the influence of cultural differences and political ideologies between the east and the west,BBC’s Chinese documentaries convey a sense of superiority of elite culture,which has a negative impact on China’s image.Therefore,it is urgent to improve the international influence and competitiveness of Chinese documentaries by self-shaping the national image,mastering the national discourse and improving the cultural issues.Based on this,this paper makes a detailed analysis of the creative content of the "China subject" documentary launched by BBC by using the relevant theories and knowledge of narrate,sociology,communication and cinematography,and adopts the methods of case analysis and quantitative research to explore from the perspectives of content issues,narrative analysis and discourse analysis.This will provide inspiration for the overseas dissemination of domestic documentaries.There are six chapters in this paper.The first chapter is the research background,literature review and research methods.The second chapter summarizes the development status and production mode of BBC Chinese documentaries.The third chapter explores the creation concept and value tendency of BBC Chinese documentaries based on western culture.The fourth chapter,through the different themes of BBC China documentaries,extracts the BBC’s representative themes of Chinese themes and understands the discourse attitudes conveyed behind them.The fifth chapter uses narratology theory to analyze narrative structure and narrative techniques,and finds that it tends to adopt diversified narrative structure and is good at using dramatic narrative techniques.Then,on the basis of Genet’s focusing perspective theory and Fairclough’s discourse theory,the author analyzes narrative perspective and narrative discourse from two aspects,and finds that most of their narrative perspectives belong to multi-perspective comprehensive narration,and their discourse attitudes contain some unfair negative attitudes.Chapter six analyzes the creative characteristics of BBC Chinese documentaries in terms of creation concept,subject selection and narrative expression,combines the cultural differences between the East and the West and the development of domestic documentaries,dialectically analyzes the merits of the creation of BBC Chinese documentaries in the development of Chinese documentaries,and thus obtains positive enlightenment for the construction of China’s overseas communication construction.
