Screenplay is the basis of film and television drama shooting.Reading excellent screenplay is beneficial to film and television industry personnel and film and television enthusiasts.However,the current attention to screenplay translation in our country is far from enough.The movie Joker won the Golden Lion Award in the main competition section of the 76 th Venice Film Festival,and also won 11 nominations at the 92 nd Oscar,including the best original screenplay.This movie is phenomenal with double success in reputation and box office.In this report,the translator selects the entire screenplay of the movie Joker as the translation practice content,and selects the Skopos theory as the guiding translation strategy in combination with the textual characteristics of screenplay.The author first introduce the project,including the background of the research,the introduction to the source text and the significance of the report.After that,she introduce the theoretical framework,including the introduction to Skopos theory and audiovisual translation.Then she explained the translation process,including pre-translation,mid-translation,and post-translation.When translating,she analysis the stage instruction,dialogue and humorous expressions in the screenplay under the guidance of the Skopos theory strategy and the theory of audiovisual translation.Finally comes to the summary,the author of the report draws the following three conclusions through case study: First,for terms and conceptual humor,the translator should use literal translation.Second,in the face of language and cultural differences,translators should use free translation or omission,and annotation if necessary.Finally,when translating dialogue,the translator should demonstrate the different personalities of different characters and make the language natural and realistic based on the rules of characterization and colloquialism.
