A Report On E-C Translation Of The Financial News From The Economist Under The Guidance Of Eco-translatology

With the development of economic globalization and China’s reform and opening up,it’s more popular to learn about the world’s economic situation through English financial news.People’s daily lives are closely related to economic and social development.However,the differences in languages and cultures prevent readers from gaining complete and accurate information.Therefore,as the demand for the translation of English financial news increases,the requirements for translators also increase.This report takes the English financial news from the finance and economics column of The Economist in 2022 as the source text.On the basis of the E-C translation practice,the translator writes the translation practice report.The translator,guided by the theory of Eco-translatology proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen,analyzes the linguistic features of the English financial news,such as terminologies,figures,complex sentences,direct quotes,indirect quotes,and inverted pyramid structure,and then uses the translation method of “three-dimensional” transformations,from three dimensions of language,culture,and communication,to carry out adaptive selections in order to obtain the target text with the highest “degree of holistic adaptation and selection”.In the linguistic dimension,the translator analyzes the cases at lexical and syntactic levels.In the cultural dimension,the translator analyzes the translation of culture-loaded words,idioms,metaphors,and similes in English.In the communicative dimension,the translator analyzes the translations of headlines and leads and some typical cases of sentences in which translations aim to achieve good communicative effects.After the translation practice,the translator realizes that in order to translate English financial news well,it is necessary to have a deep grasp of both Chinese and English,learn the cultures behind the languages,read texts in the field of finance and economics extensively,pay attention to the domestic and foreign economic development situation,and reserve enough professional knowledge and background knowledge so as to fully convey the original information to the target readers.The translator not only summarizes the major findings but also points out some limitations and suggestions in the translation practice,hoping to provide references for other translators to translate English financial news.
