Cultural Memory Behind The Lens

This study takes a cross-cultural perspective and delves into the realm of photography art using the theoretical frameworks of cultural memory and semiotics.The research aims to deepen the understanding of the connotations and meanings within photographic works,expand the application of semiotics in the field of photography research,foster understanding and communication between different cultures,and provide insights for the preservation and development of cultural diversity.The study employs literature review,semiotic analysis,and case study methods to analyze the application of cultural memory and semiotics in photography art and related research.This article first explores the manifestation and expression of cultural memory and semiotic theory in photographic works.It then conducts comparative analyses of photographic works from different cultural backgrounds to examine the influence of cultural differences on the style and content of these works.Finally,three representative photographic works are selected as examples for semiotic analysis.The results of the study indicate that photographic works not only convey and represent cultural memory but also serve as a medium for dialogue between humans and history,society,and culture.Semiotics,as a theoretical tool,can help viewers delve into the cultural connotations and historical information embedded in photographic works,enhance understanding and respect for different cultures,and enrich the research field of photography art as a medium of cultural exchange.This research holds significant implications for the study of photography art,exploring its theoretical feasibility and providing valuable insights for practice.However,the study has certain limitations in terms of research methods and topic scope.Future research can further expand the research domain to contribute more to the development of photography art.
