The outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020 has had a huge impact on the tourism industry. The impact of restricted travel for tourists is self-evident for residents of tourist destinations whose main source of economic income is tourism. In this context,it is important to pay attention to the psychological and behavioural impact of the COVID-19 on the residents of tourist areas. For the residents of ethnic tourism villages, whose main source of income is tourism, the impact of the COVID-19 creates a risk of anxiety and confusion as there is ’no income without tourists’.At this point, their mindset or behaviour may change in two ways: either they choose to respond positively and participate in the development of tourism in their community(or else they leave to work),or they ruminate,i.e.they ruminate over and over again, possibly giving up or continuing to persevere.Either way, there is likely to be an impact on their ability to engage in community participation, which in turn affects the community resilience of ethnic tourism villages.Community resilience is the ability of a community to reduce the likelihood of shocks,to absorb shocks when they occur and to recover quickly afterwards. Therefore, this study bets on the influence of risk perceptions of community residents in ethnic tourism villages under the impact of the COVID-19 on community resilience, and uses community residents’ regurgitated thinking and coping styles as mediating variables to further explore the community resilience of ethnic tourism villages under the impact of the epidemic, and proposes relevant suggestions and measures for the recovery and development of ethnic tourism villages under the normalisation of the epidemic based on the results of the study, with a view to providing some reference for ethnic villages The study is based on the results of the study and proposes relevant suggestions and measures for the recovery and development of ethnic village tourism under the epidemic, with a view to providing some reference for the quality development of ethnic village tourism. This study takes the ethnic tourism village of Xijiang Qianhu Miaozhai as an example.Based on the dual mediation mechanism of regurgitation and coping, combining stress coping theory, resource conservation theory and risk perception theory, and using a combination of research methods such as content analysis and statistical analysis, the study explores the mechanism of community residents’ risk perception on community resilience. The results indicate that(1)individual risk perceptions of epidemic-influenced tourism participation can be observed at both individual and societal levels. This is consistent with previous research suggesting that individuals may have two types of risk perceptions(their own and others)when health risks are widespread.(2)Risk perceptions do not act directly in community resilience in ethnic tourism villages, which is consistent with research hypotheses suggesting that community residents do not act directly in community resilience when they perceive an epidemic affecting their tourism participation, but need to be influenced through mediating mechanisms.(3)Coping styles can be explained in terms of both problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping, and both problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping play a fully mediating role between risk perception and community resilience, suggesting that community residents are motivated to cope when they perceive risk and thus contribute to community resilience.(4)Ruminative thinking can be explained by both deliberate and intrusive ruminant thinking, and both deliberate and intrusive ruminant thinking fully mediate the relationship between risk perception and community resilience, suggesting that community residents’ repeated thinking in search of meaning in the face of risk can also contribute to community resilience.(5)The moderating effect of community support is significant, and community support has a significant moderating effect in both mediating mechanisms of coping and rumination. The study emphasises that community support in ethnic tourism villages can be increased in all aspects as a way to enhance community resilience in ethnic tourism villages.
