Researchers always want to know how some people can cope with stress moreeffectively. Recently many psychologists have paid a lot of attention to resilience, andit is believed that resilience may help people cope with stress successfully.Understanding the psychological mechanism of resilience can not only allow us topredict the response of people facing stress, but also support further intervention. Thepurpose of this study was to explore the psychological mechanism of resilience whenpeople were facing cancer, and explored the characteristic of cognitive appraisal, coping style of patients and their influences on the quality of life. Based on previousresearch, this study proposed the research frame and used the questionnaires to examthe hypotheses. The main results were summarized as the follows:1) Most patients with cancer satisfied with their quality of life. Their positivecognitive appraisal and positive coping were more obvious than negative cognitiveappraisal and coping.2) Resilience influenced coping through cognitive appraisal. Resilience caninfluence resignation through positive appraisal and uncertain appraisal about disease.There was a mediate effect of coping between cognitive appraisal and quality of life.So was cognitive appraisal between resilience and quality of life.3) Resilience, cognitive appraisal and coping can predict quality of life. Resilienceinfluenced quality of life through positive appraisal, uncertain appraisal about diseaseand resignation. It mostly influenced the physiological aspect of quality of life.4) Demographic variables can affect patients' cognitive appraisal, coping andquality of life. Sex influenced avoidance. Age influenced uncertain appraisal aboutdisease and the physiological aspect of quality of life. Duration after knowing diseaseinfluenced positive appraisal, confrontation and resignation. Type of diseaseinfluenced responsible appraisal.
