| Since its reform and opening up,China has seen continuous enhancement in its comprehensive national strength and international status, arousing extensive attention worldwide. Its time-honored history and profound culture extend strong and special appeal to more and more foreigners who want to come to China on the student exchange. In China, many foreign students are eager to integrate into the local society and culture, and experience the life here, which greatly promotes cultural exchanges between China and other countries. However, language and cultural barriers often pose difficulties in such cross-cultural communication and in such cases, interpreting begins to play a vital and instrumental role.Against this background, the author was entrusted by a Dutch student Grant Fuller to accompany him to visit the Changchun Water Ecology Park located in Nanguan District,Changchun City,Jilin Province on 27 th September,2022 and provide interpreting service in cooperation with the tour guide.Based on this escort interpreting, the author made a detailed and careful analysis of the transcribed text and identified two major problems that occurred in her interpreting, namely reiteration and repetition of contextual information. To help cope with these problems, the author proposed some corresponding strategies including omission, substitution and simplification, with the Communicative Translation Theory as the theoretical framework. In the course of compiling this report, the author has made serious reflections on the problems of her own interpreting and summarized the experience and lessons. It is hoped that this report can not only serve as a reference to help improve the author’s interpreting ability continuously in her subsequent study and practice, but also can be of some referential value for future interpreting study and practice in similar situations. |
