| Along with the appearance of English Curriculum Standard of General Senior High School and development of the New Course Reform,educators have had in-depth discussions on the cultivation of key competencies of English subject and the English teaching model,and they have realized the significance of classroom reform and classroom-reconstruction in education reform.The precondition of classroom-reconstruction is to figure out current situations of the classroom teaching,while according to the previous studies,many problems still exist in the present English reading teaching in high school.This study attempts to explore the current situations of senior high school English reading teaching and the effectiveness of the construction of ecological English reading classroom model based on the conception of the New Curriculum Standard and the theory of ecological classroom.The research subjects of this study are from one key senior high school in Ganzhou,Jiangxi province.To begin with,before the teaching experiment,the questionnaires,classroom observations and interviews with teachers were employed to explore the current situations of English reading teaching in senior high school;in addition,at the beginning and end of the teaching experiment,the pre-test and the post-test were implemented to verify whether the implementation of ecological English reading classroom model can effectively improve learners’ reading competence;finally,after the post-test,interviews with the students were accomplished to figure out whether the implementation of ecological English reading classroom model can enhance learners’ interests in English reading class.By the quantitative and qualitative analysis methods,the major findings of this study are indicated as follows:(1)In the present English reading instruction in senior high school,there are many non-ecological phenomena which are contrary to the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard.(2)The implementation of ecological English reading classroom model plays a positive and effective role in improving learners’ reading competence.(3)The application of ecological English reading classroom model can enhance learners’ interests in English reading class.Based on the existing problems in English reading class and the conceptions of ecological classroom and the New Curriculum Standard,five measures of optimizing the classroom teaching of English reading are provided as follows: implementing the view of activity-based English learning;creating a changeable ecological classroom environment;building a democratic and equal interpersonal relationship;establishing a multi-dimensional evaluation system;providing more learning opportunities for teachers. |
