| English reading plays a very important role in English learning,as it is an important way for students to obtain information and knowledge,and also an important benchmark for testing their comprehensive English application ability.Therefore,emphasizing reading teaching and cultivating reading interest is particularly important in English teaching.At present,there are some problems in English reading teaching:many students lack guidance on reading strategies and have not yet formed independent ways of learning English reading;Most students have no interest in English reading and lack motivation for English reading,resulting in unsatisfactory reading scores.This study explores the application of problem-based teaching method in English reading teaching.Problem-based teaching method is a problem-oriented and student-centered teaching method.Teachers play a role as facilitators and leaders in the classroom,while students reflect and analyze problems in real situations.This teaching method can not only exercise students’ ability to raise and solve problems,but also enhance their teamwork spirit,stimulating their interest and enthusiasm in English reading.The purpose of this study is to answer the following two questions: 1.How does the application of problem-based teaching method in middle school English reading teaching affect students’ enthusiasm for English reading? How does the application of problem-based teaching method in middle school English reading teaching affect students’ English reading performance?The study has conducted for three months.A total of 108 students from Class 7and Class 8 of a junior high school in Fuping County,Weinan City,Shaanxi Province were selected as the research subjects.Class 8 was used as the control class,teaching reading according to the traditional teaching mode.It adopts a grammar translation method with native language as an auxiliary means,translating articles word by word and sentence by sentence,allowing students to fully familiarize themselves with the reading content and explain their key words,phrases,and sentence structures.Class 7was used as the experimental class,and the problem based teaching method was used to conduct experimental research on English reading classes.Before conducting the experimental research,it has conducted some surveys on two classes of students,including distributing questionnaires and reading test papers.The purpose of the survey is to investigate the current English reading performance of students in two classes,as well as their attitudes and performance towards English reading.After analyzing the survey data before the experiment and combining with the research results of other researchers,the author applies the problem based approach to the actual English reading teaching,and takes the following steps in class: create problem situations;put forward problems;independently analyze problems;group problem solving;display the results;summarize and evaluate.After conducting the second questionnaire survey and English reading test,the research has come to the following conclusion: The post test English reading scores of the experimental class were significantly higher than those of the control class,and there was a significant difference between the two classes(p=0.018<0.05),indicating that problem-based teaching can help students master various reading strategies and improve their reading performance.2.Based on the results of the post test questionnaire survey and the analysis results in Tables 5-5 of Chapter 5 Data Analysis,it is found that problem based teaching method can help students develop their reading abilities and improve their English reading enthusiasm. |
