Reading plays an important role in senior high school English. However,English reading teaching in junior high school is not optimistic. Many teachers still adopt the teacher-centered English reading teaching methods. It is difficult for the teachers to stimulate the students’ English learning passion and cultivate their English reading ability. This thesis applies the objective-oriented teaching method to senior high school English reading teaching, and it aims to discuss the effects of the objective-oriented teaching method on senior high school students’ English reading. The objective-oriented teaching method is based on Bloom’s taxonomy of the educational objectives theory and Pi Liansheng’s objective-oriented teaching theory.Bloom’s taxonomy of the educational objectives theory holds three major parts for a complete taxonomy of educational objectives: the cognitive domain, affective domain, and the psychomotor domain, which provides a basis for test design and curriculum development.Pi Liansheng’s objective-oriented teaching theory emphasizes the analysis of teaching tasks and divides the teaching objectives into several interrelated small objectives, which improves the teaching quality and gives full play to the interaction between teachers and students. This study applies the objective-oriented teaching method to senior high school English reading teaching, and tries to answer the following three questions:(1)What are the effects of the objective-oriented teaching method on senior high school students’ English reading strategies?(2)What are the effects of the objective-oriented teaching method on senior high school students’ English reading achievements?(3)What are the effects of the objective-oriented teaching method on senior high school students’ English reading autonomy? The experiment lasts for 16 weeks.100 students of two parallel classes are selected as the research subjects from Grade One of a senior high school in Hebei.50 students are in the control class and 50 students are in the experimental class. Before the teaching experiment, the English levels of the students are relatively equivalent. The control class still adopts the traditional English teaching method, and the experimental class applies the objective-oriented teaching method. The research instruments include questionnaires,pre-test and post-test,and interview. This study analyzes the data from the experiment by SPSS 28.0 software. It can be found that the objective-oriented teaching method has positive effects on senior high school students’ English reading teaching. After the experiment, students in the experimental class are superior to control class students in using English reading strategies.Students significantly improve their English reading achievements and they show great autonomy in English reading in the experimental class. Therefore, the objective-oriented teaching method is feasible in senior high school English reading teaching.
