As an important part of China’s social class,the bottom figures have existed in every era since ancient times.With the continuous change of times,the characters at the bottom are constantly showing new trends and accommodating new groups.It is undeniable that no matter what era they are in,the people at the bottom are marginalized groups in society,wandering between urban and rural areas for a long time,losing their basic social discourse power,and being in the position of "weak" in the entire social class.With the rapid development of society and the acceleration of the pace of life,people are becoming more and more indifferent to the surrounding things,so that the society has a state of "hypothermia",and there is a lack of due humanistic care for the bottom figures on the fringes of society.Documentaries are called "chroniclers of the times" and are not only broad and profound,but also nuanced.Recording the image of the underlying characters in the form of a documentary can not only enable the bottom characters to appear in the public’s field of vision,so that they can get more attention and get more care,but also greatly enrich the theme and content of the documentary.The character documentary focuses the lens on the image of the bottom characters,allowing the audience to feel the humanistic care of the creators while understanding the bottom characters,so that the audience’s heart can get a enjoyment covering social,humanistic and artistic beauty.In character documentaries,the bottom characters are taken as the main recording objects,and how to construct the image of the bottom characters is the key to the success of the character documentary.This thesis focuses on "the construction of the underlying character image in character documentaries",uses the literature research method,inductive summary method and other research methods,based on the theoretical foundations of reception aesthetics,narratology and film and television linguistics,combined with excellent bottom character documentaries,to explore how to better construct the bottom character image in character documentaries.The thesis mainly focuses on the following five parts:The first part mainly defines the basic concepts of "character documentary" and "bottom character",and sorts out the theoretical viewpoints such as aesthetic theory,narrative theory,rhetorical theory and film and television linguistic theory,so as to provide a theoretical basis for the construction of the underlying character image in character documentaries.The second part mainly discusses the construction of the relationship between the subject and the creator in the process of documentary creation.On the one hand,to analyze the simulated behavior of the subject,the creator should dig deeper into the motives for this behavior through the subject’s self-performance.On the other hand,it analyzes how creators give full play to their subjective initiative in the process of on-site shooting and post-art processing,so as to better serve the construction of the underlying characters.Finally,how to grasp the relationship between the creator and the subject in the creative process,that is,the creator should enter the inner world of the underlying characters with the concept of humanistic care.The third part mainly explores the narrative construction of the underlying characters in character documentaries.Firstly,the three-dimensional space narrative theory is used to construct the underlying character image layer by layer from the three dimensions of physical,social and spiritual space.Secondly,it uses a narrative perspective combining the first person and the third person and cooperates with the "fragmented" narrative technique to show the underlying characters from multiple angles and in all directions.Third,through the application of narrative sections such as contradictions and conflicts and detailed portrayals,the image of the underlying characters is strengthened.Finally,the narrative rhetoric with metaphor and rendering embodies the spirit of the underlying characters while setting off the images of the underlying characters.The fourth part explores the image construction of the underlying characters in character documentaries.First of all,the use of poetic long shots,strong sense of substitution follow-up shots,close-ups to show details and other diverse lens languages to build the framework of the underlying characters.Secondly,through the use of exquisite composition and rich and changeable light and shadow changes,the connotation of the underlying character image is deepened.Finally,the use of voiceover,simultaneous sound and music,sound language combined with picture language,so that the underlying character image is more three-dimensional while being set and rendered.The fifth part,as the last part of this thesis,analyzes the social value of character documentary construction of the underlying character image.Through the use of images to explain and disseminate its social value,reveal the problems in the society,let the audience truly reflect the society through documentaries.At the same time,the author closely combines theory and practice,combined with the graduation work "World in the Palm",which not only guides practice with theory,but also further enhances theory in practice,and cooperates to explore the construction of the underlying character image in character documentaries.
