| Reading is an important way for students to learn language knowledge,develop their language skills,expand their thinking abilities and improve their aesthetic abilities,eventually develop their positive reading habits.Most importantly,reading discourse is the main content of reading teaching,which includes language points and cultural knowledge.By analyzing discourse,students can cultivate their cultural awareness and thinking pattern,so that students will develop their reading abilities.However,there are many problems in most reading teaching classes.For example,teachers usually use single teaching method and spend too much time teaching knowledge,etc.Based on the study of The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 edition 2020 revision),this research aims to answer the following three questions from the perspective of the concept of activity-based learning:(1)Whether English teacher has used the concept of activity-based learning in their reading design?(2)Can teacher’s English reading design with the concept of activity-based learning improve students’ reading abilities?(3)How to integrate the concept of activity-based learning in English reading design?Therefore,through questionnaire survey,teacher’s interview and tests,the results of this research show that most students are good at basic reading activities,such as learning and understanding the main idea of the passage.Most students are able to acquire new knowledge from discourse by integrating information and form a new knowledge structure after learning.However,students need more practice in applying,transferring language points.They can’t judge the text critically and express their ideas in a creative way.As for English teachers,when they made their reading teaching designs,they didn’t have a total understanding of the concept of activity-based learning and their students completely.Also,they didn’t analyze the teaching content deeply and design a series of comprehensive and practical reading activities to help students develop their reading abilities.Based on the results of this research,this study provides two examples of reading instructional designs to show how to integrate the concept of activity-based learning with reading instructional designs and give some suggestions to English teachers in order to help them optimize their reading teaching designs and inspire them to create some new and effective ways of teaching.These suggestions include changing teaching concept in time to help students build their own knowledge systems,designing abundant learning activities to help students transferring their knowledge in their life,and never stop learning to improve their professional skills,etc.In summary,English teachers need to change their teaching concepts in times.They also need to choose appropriate teaching and learning methods,integrate teaching content in a more effective way,and design a series of relevant,comprehensive and practical English learning activities that are student-centered.In this way,English teachers can make English reading teaching more effective and reasonable. |
