The source text of this translation practice is selected from The Palgrave Handbook of ESG and Corporate Governance, which contains 22 articles, mainly focusing on the adoption of ESG by companies and the legal and regulatory development of the European Union in ESG and corporate governance. The author selected Chapter 17 and Chapter 18 for translation. This part involves ESG investment, securities and corporate governance. It is a financial text and also a functional information text.Based on this translation practice and supported by Professor Li Changshuan’s“Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”(CEA)framework, this report analyzes the problems encountered in the translation process from these three aspects, demonstrates the author’s corresponding ways of solving problems, and explores the translation strategies and methods applicable to financial texts. This report mainly includes four chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces the source text with its language style and characteristics, the translation process, and the significance of the topic. The second chapter introduces CEA analytical framework and its applicability to the report. The third chapter presents and analyzes the translation problems and their solutions according to CEA framework: the comprehension part shows how to clear understanding obstacles of words, professional knowledge, and background information through reading parallel texts, analyzing quotations, and consulting scholars;the expression part shows that to achieve accuracy and fluency of the text,it is necessary to combine the context to avoid ambiguity and avoid Europeanized Chinese;the adaptation part shows how to translate flexibly through such strategies as employing four-character words, inversion, and negation. The fourth chapter summarizes the important experience gained in translation and its limitations.Through the analysis and summary of this translation practice, this report discusses the feasibility of using different translation strategies under the framework of comprehension, expression, and adaptation(CEA)to guide the translation of financial texts. At the same time,it is hoped that the translation of the selected material can help Chinese scholars, entrepreneurs, and institutions understand the relevant research situation abroad and positively influence domestic ESG development and corporate governance. In addition,it is expected to provide some reference for E-C translations of similar financial texts through the translation strategies tried and discussed in this practice and report.
