Due to the continuous expansion of cultural markets at home and abroad,a lot of biographies have gradually entered the public domain and attracted the attention of Chinese readers.Therefore,the translation work of biographies has built a bridge of cross-cultural communication for Chinese readers to a certain extent.The paper is a report on the translation practice of a biography.The author excerpts the fifth and sixth chapters of Philip Roth: The Biography which mainly introduces Philip Roth’s life after graduating from high school and entering college life,and it also focuses on the conflicts between Roth and his father and his emotional experiences.This translation practice report mainly includes five parts: task description,task process,brief introduction of Vermeer skopos Theory,case analysis and summary of translation practice.Under this framework,the author analyzes and studies the selected translation materials,deeply explores the characters,and retains the textual characteristics and language style of the original text to the greatest extent.Combining a large number of practical materials,this translation project report analyzes the selected chapters in light of Vermeer’s Skopos theory and accurately presents the vivid image of Roth and the original information to the readers under the guidance of the three rules:skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.It also uses a variety of translation methods and strategies to precisely express the original text combining with specific cases,while also striving to make the translation smooth. |
