As the largest prose school of the Qing dynasty,tongcheng school of Prose has lasted for more than two hundred years,and has been closely related to the fortunes of the Qing Dynasty.In the late Qing Dynasty,the social trend of thought was changing,and the essays of Tongcheng school,which had always been centered on Taoism,also pursued innovation and change,showing different development characteristics in different stages.All kinds of new changes in the mainstream literary world are bound to arouse the positive response of regional excellent writers and form the development situation of prose with regional characteristics.In Hubei,there appeared wang Baixin,Zhang Yuzhao,Wang Baoxin such tongcheng prose masters.The three of them had their own achievements,which constituted the development pattern of the late Qing Dynasty’s Tongcheng school of Hubei prose seeking innovation and change.On the whole,there were three important changes in the prose of Tongcheng School in Hubei province in the late Qing Dynasty.The first was during the Daoguang Period,about 1840-1850.At that time,the Qing dynasty internal troubles and foreign invasion,the ideological trend of Neo-Confucianism was flourishing,and the writers of Tongcheng school also paid more attention to reality.As echo of tongcheng prose masters,hubei region Wang Baixin in "giri" "rhetoric" textual research "," heavy " economy ",not only in the prose creation reflects the strong reality,also with its unique political,military,economy and water conservancy thought support xiang,played a role in hubei local governance.The emergence of Wang Baixin opened a new situation for the development of tongcheng school of Hubei prose in the late Qing Dynasty.The second period is from the Reign of Xianfeng to the early Guangxu Dynasty,about 1850 to 1890.First,thanks to Zeng Guofan,tongcheng literary school revived its atmosphere.Later,zhang Yuzhao,one of the "four sons of Zeng",was famous in the Literary world of the Qing Dynasty for his abundant prose.In theory,the author creatively puts forward the essay style theory of "Yajian",and improves the theory of "seeking qi from sound" of the old people in Tongcheng.In education,he and Wu Rulun jointly created the "Lianchi School",which influenced many students.His appearance represents the prosperity of the development of tongcheng school of Hubei prose in the late Qing Dynasty.The third time is the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China,about 1890 to 1919.During this period,the old and new social systems changed,and the new school and the old school also clashed fiercely.Under the background of the traditional literature gradually giving way to the new literature,there appeared a work that systematically elaborated the theory of tongcheng school’s prose creation--Ancient Literary Tong Yi by Wang Baoxin.The book summarized the ancient prose from the perspective of ancient prose creation,criticism,evolution and development history of ancient prose,which was highly praised by tongcheng school writers at that time.It can be regarded as a deepening of the development of the prose of Tongcheng School in Hubei in the late Qing Dynasty.In sorting out these three stages,this paper tries to explore the development vein of ancient prose in Hubei region from the works of representative writers and related writers,showing the rich creative vitality of tongcheng school in the late Qing Dynasty,and enrich and deepen the literary research of Tongcheng school.
