A Report On The C-E Translation Of Enterprise Management System Text Based On Andrew Chesterman’s Translation Norms

With China’s prosperity,many enterprises guided by the “Going-out” policy expand global markets with international vision.It is especially crucial to attract best talents from the rest of the world.The management system of the enterprise lays the foundation for standardizing procedures,managing all departments,attracting talents and clarifying responsibilities.Therefore,the translation of management system plays an important role in attracting global talents and promoting the development of the enterprise.The author accepted the commission to translate the Management System of Deshun Municipal Engineering Co.LTD to English.This translation practice has the positive significance for attracting talents and implementing government’s policy.This report applies Chesterman’s translation norms to the translation of management system,aiming at expanding the application scope of Chesterman’s translation norms and offer some help for the future translation practice.The theory of translation norms advocates studying translation activities in the social context.Considering the relevance of this study purpose and the characteristics of the original text,the author chooses the Chesterman’s translation norm theory as the theoretical framework.Findings indicate that Chesterman’s translation norms could be practical and efficient by using the strategies of three levels.At the grammatical level,the author pays attention to the many language differences between English and Chinese in order to embody the characteristics of English in the translation by changing the information form of the original text.At the semantic level,the author makes the translation not only meet the requirements of the client but also restore the normative characteristics of the text by manipulating the meaning of the information in the original text.At the pragmatic level,the author follows the principle of “Authenticity First” to manipulate and even select the information in the original text,so as to convey the correct information to the readers and improve the coherence of the discourse.In conclusion,Chesterman’s translation norms may help the translator conform to the expectancy and professional norms through applying the strategies in grammatical,semantic and pragmatic levels to the translation practice after taking into account the requirements of the client,the characteristics of the text and the reading habits of the readers,so as to achieve appropriate and faithful translation.
