The source text is a long review of Recent Progress on Control Strategies for Inherent Issues in Friction Stir Welding. The first four chapters introduce the problems caused by the inherent issues of friction stir welding and corresponding control strategies. The translation of this paper can make more enterprises and research institutes know the achievements in the field of friction stir welding made by the State Key Lab of Advanced Welding and Jointing. Also,it can benefit to later translators to translate similar topics.Chesterman’s Theory of Translation Norms seeks to bring the translation into line with expectancy norms and professional norms. The source text is a highly professional academic paper,so the translator hopes to use the systematic theoretical framework established by Chesterman. The way is to apply the three levels of lexical, syntactic and discourse strategies proposed by him, such as conversion of linguistic units, transformation of abstraction into concrete, and change of clarity,in order to make the translation conform to the professionalism expected by target readers. This translation practice report contains four chapters. In Chapter 1,the source, content and background of the source text is introduced.Chapter 2 describes the specific pre-translation preparation and translation process. The third chapter makes a specific case analysis by flexibly adopting lexical, syntactic and discourse strategies under the guidance of professional norms and expectation norms,so that readers can understand the use of translation. The final chapter summarizes the problems encountered in the translation process and limitations of the report.
