A Comparative Study Of Chinese Set Phrases And Idiomatic Expressions Based On Prosody And Register Theory

As two important types of Chinese idioms,the discussion on the difference between set phrases and idiomatic expressions has been going on for a long time in the academic circle.With the development of the theory of prosodic grammar and register grammar,some linguistic phenomena that were difficult to explain in the past can find new theoretical basis.In this paper,the theories of prosody and register are applied to analyze Chinese set phrases and idiomatic expressions respectively,in an attempt to find out their distinctive features from the perspective of prosody and register,so as to deepen the understanding of Chinese set phrases and idiomatic expressions.The first chapter introduces the reasons for the topic selection of the article,and briefly summarizes the current situation of Chinese set phrases,idiomatic expressions,and the comparative study of set phrases and idiomatic expressions.At the same time,it also explains the research object and range,research methods and significance of this topic,and explains the sources of the corpus used.The second chapter gives a brief introduction to prosodic grammar and register grammar,and proves the necessity and feasibility of comparative study of set phrases and idiomatic expressions based on prosodic and register theory.Chapter third analyzes set phrases and idiomatic expressions in detail from the perspective of prosody.This paper discusses the process of non-four-character set phrases gradually becoming four-character set phrases and the causes of prosody,and analyzes the misalignment of four-character set phrases in grammatical structure and prosodic structure with examples.At the same time,the prosodic differences between idiomatic expressions and words are discussed,and the prosodic structure of three-syllable and four-syllable idiomatic expressions is analyzed concretely.At last,the distinguishing characteristics of Chinese set phrases and idiomatic expressions are summarized from the aspects of origin evolution,prosodic structure and stress pattern.Chapter four makes a comparative analysis of Chinese set phrases and idiomatic expressions from the register perspective.This paper classifies the set phrases according to the degree of formality,discusses the classical composition and grammatical features that set phrases reserved,and tests the function of formal written register by using the method of identification of communication time and space.At the same time,it analyzes the sources and components of idiomatic expressions,discusses the characteristics of idiomatic expressions in the application process,which further confirms the characteristics of informal colloquial register.At last,the paper summarizes the distinctive features of set phrases and idiomatic expressions in register aspects.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,which combs the content of each chapter,and also explains the shortcomings and future research direction of related topics.
