This translation report takes the second chapter of the book Using Comparable Corpora for Under-Resourced Areas of Machine Translation as the source text.This chapter focuses on cross-linguistic comparability and its measurements,aiming to provide feasible methods to construct a machine translation system in an under-resourced field.The translator chooses Halliday and Hasan’s discourse cohesion theory as the guiding theory.Based on cohesive devices in discourse,appropriate translation techniques are adopted to ensure semantic coherence,which makes the translation comfort to the expression habits of the target language.On the lexical level,the translator verifies the accurate expression of terms in authoritative terminology resource platform and relevant parallel texts.Conversion is efficiently used in translation to improve the readability of sentences.On the sentence level,the translator analyzes the information structure and adopts the translation skills such as combination,division and inversion,so as to make the translation more concise and smooth.On the textual level,the translator pays attention to the cohesive devices and logical relations in the original text and applies amplification to ensure the logical cohesion,semantic integrity and textual coherence of the translation. |
