As one of the five basic English skills,listening skills have attracted more and more attention.However,in Junior high school English teaching,students generally believe that the training of English listening skills is more difficult comparing to develop other language skills.Due to students’ ability of processing long sentences and maintaining a long-term memory is limited in the process of listening.Researches have found that because the brains of native learners store large lexical chunks,In the course of processing a sentence including 8-10 words,the brain can produce complex sentences with more than 10 words.Therefore,the fact that their brains can fully capture the information of the sentence what they heard.which indicates that the brain of native learners stores a large number of lexical chunks.Because non-native English learners have insufficient knowledge of language grammar and discourse,who can only grasp the meaning of isolated words.How to innovate the listening teaching method and improve the listening teaching effect has become an urgent problem to be solved.Lexical chunks theory has attracted more and more scholars’ attention.In this research,141 students from four natural classes((two experimental classes in total 70 students,two control classes in total 71 students in the Junior high school of Yiwu city were selected as the research object.This paper uses the test,questionnaire survey and interview method,trying to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of lexical chunks theory in junior high school of listening teaching.Specifically,this paper aims to solve the following problems :(1)Compared with the traditional teaching method,is the lexical chunk teaching method is conducive to improving the English listening level of junior high school students?(2)Is there any correlation between students’ listening ability and lexical chunk awareness?(3)How to apply the lexical chunk teaching method in listening teaching?This research adopts the methods of questionnaire survey and interview to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of lexical chunks theory in Junior high school of English listening teaching.By comparing the listening scores of the experimental class and the control class,and analyzing the questionnaire and interview data through SPSS software.which can prove that after the implementation of lexical chunks teaching method,the English listening comprehension of the experimental class students is strengthened,overall discourse control ability,pragmatic ability and interest are obtained to improve.Students in the experimental class also scored significantly higher than those in the control class on the listening test.Based on the above results,we can draw a conclusion that the lexical chunks teaching method is helpful to improve the listening level of Junior high school English.
