As an outstanding female crown poet of the late Tang Dynasty,Yu Xuanji was known as the "Poetic Sage of Lady".This article is based on the poetry text of Yu Xuanji, and on the basis of previous research, starting from the basic component of poetry construction, imagery,in order to have a deep understanding of the poetic imagery of women in the late Tang Dynasty. The text is divided into four chapters, plus an introduction and a conclusion with a total of six parts. The introduction section reviews the current situation of Yu Xuanji’ research in China, and puts forward the research reasons, research methods and research significance of this topic. The first chapter expounds an overview of Yu Xuanji’s poetry, sorts out the formation and development process of imagery in the history of Chinese classical literature, takes the Tang and Song dynasties as the line, divides it into the embryonic period and the development period, and clarifies the influence of imagery on Tang poetry;a simple examination of the birth and death years of the Yu Xuanji is carried out,and the poems are arranged and classified according to the year, which are divided into four categories: love and nostalgia, intercourse and cooperation, entrustment of affection, and landscape poetry. The second chapter comprehensively sorts out the poetic imagery of Yu Xuanji from the two aspects of the type of imagery and the way of combination: the imagery in the poem can be divided into three categories: nature, life, and mythological imagery; The combination modes are mainly collocation, jump and progression, supplemented by superposition, addition and convergence. The third chapter deeply analyzes the imagery symbols in Yu Xuanji’s poetry, starting from the time, architecture, and character imagery symbols, and using the metaphorical meaning of the symbols to explore the emotional connotation behind them and the personality traits of the poet. The fourth chapter discusses the literary and aesthetic significance of Yu Xuanji’s poetic imagery, combines the social reality of the late Tang poetry circle, summarizes the three typical stylistic characteristics of her poetry: mourning and bitterness, eagerness and frankness, fresh and leisurely, and discusses the inheritance and difference of the poetic style and imagery of the late Tang Dynasty;religious influences and personality traits give her poetry a different aesthetic meaning: ecological beauty and rigidity and softness. The concluding part summarizes the understanding and feelings of this paper in the process of studying the image of Yu Xuanji’s poetry, and looks forward to the prospects of her research. As a representative of the feminine crown poet, her poetic imagery is not only the inheritance of the use of the late Tang Dynasty imagery, but also integrates religious influences, creating and transcending them, showing the maturity of Tang Dynasty poetic imagery; The spiritual connotations presented behind the imagery, the thinking about personal fate and the germination of women’s autonomous consciousness have a strong rebellious spirit, which is a powerful supporting material for studying the awakening of women’s consciousness in ancient China.
