A Report On The English Translation Of The Fundamental Principles For Social Governance Under The Guidance Of Adaptation Theory

As a political text that systematically discusses Xi Jinping’s thought on social governance in the new era,Feng Shizheng’s book Social Governance of China in the New Era is notable for its linguistic features at three levels:vocabulary,syntax,and discourse.Since no English translation of this work has been published yet,the translation and introduction of it is helpful for disseminating the political influence of China and can enhance foreign readers’ understanding of China’s social governance.The translator chooses the introductory part and the second chapter:"Fundamental Principles of Social Governance" from the book as the source text for this translation practice,and employs Verschueren’s structural objects of adaptability to analyze it.At lexical level,as for the translation of terms with Chinese characteristics,political terms and idioms in the source text,the translator pays much attention to their lexical adaptation in the target language.At syntactic level,the translator adapts to the expressive habits of the target language to deal with the translation of parallelism structures,non-subject sentences and passive sentences in the source text.At the level of discourse,the translator adds connective words and adjusts the order of sentences,making the translation achieve the goal of coherence.During the process of translation,the translator not only improves the understanding of the language style and characteristics of this political text,but also tests the feasibility of structural objects of adaptability.Through the translation report,the translator aims to promote the external dissemination of Chinese political texts and provide some theoretical and practical guidance for the future translation reports of political texts.
