Since the 1980s,with the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization in China,the phenomenon of left-behind children has emerged along with the great migration of population between urban and rural areas.According to the statistics of the Ministry of Civil Affairs,there were about 6.97 million left-behind children in China by the end of 2018,and the phenomenon of parent-child separation will continue to exist for a long time in the future.Based on the above background,this study analyzed the pain points and needs of parent-child interaction in the existing families of left-behind children,designed a digital remote parenting scheme based on virtual digital parents from the perspective of presence,and explored the positive effects and possible negative effects of this parenting scheme on parent-child interaction in the families of left-behind children.This paper mainly includes five parts:theoretical research,user demand analysis,design strategy extraction,design practice scheme and design verification.Firstly,in the theoretical research part,the author analyzes the research literature and the current situation of competitive products in the fields of presence,parent-child relationship of left-behind children families,digital parenting and virtual digital parents,and summarizes the shortcomings of the research and competitive products and the areas to be improved.Secondly,the qualitative research method of grounded theory is used to explore the parent-child rearing needs of left-behind children and extract the presence experience factors that affect the digital rearing of left-behind children,which mainly include four factors:children’s individual factors,family environment factors,parent-child relationship factors and digital parenting styles.According to the influence factors of presence experience and parenting needs,three main digital parenting design strategies are obtained through functional transformation.In the design practice part,a total of four major modules of digital parenting design practice are produced through the guidance of design strategies,including digital parents immersive interactive companion module,personalized online education platform module,interactive module to promote parent-child communication and enhance parent-child relationship,and personal information module of left-behind children.In the final part of design verification,the effect of the design scheme is measured by the presence scale.The results show that the digital parenting scheme based on virtual digital parents proposed in this study can promote parent-child communication,improve parent-child intimacy,enhance parent-child relationship,and play a role in compensating for the emotional loss caused by parental loss.
