At present,the global energy situation is complex and changeable.As a major energy consumer,China’s energy industry,based on the 14th Five-Year Plan,adheres to the spirit of cooperation and development,focuses on the international market,carries out extensive cooperation,seeks a cleaner and more efficient energy model,and strives to achieve the goal of"double carbon".The Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute(hereinafter referred to as the "EPPEI")translates news articles into English in order to expand external publicity,thereby showing the world important activities and achievements of China in the electric power industry.The translator selected a number of Chinese press releases of the EPPEI as the source text of this translation report,carried out translation practice from Chinese to English,with a total of nearly 20,000 words translated,and have finished the translation report.Under the guidance of Eugene.A.Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the translator analyzes and studies some representative cases in this report for other translators’ reference.In the preparation period,the translator learns about the background knowledge in this sector,verifies the expression of energy industry terminologies,and reads parallel texts to get a better understanding about the source text.The translator also concludes the key points of this type of text in terminologies of translation in order to make the translation conform to the expression of the news publicity texts.During translation,considering the lexical characteristics of the source text,the translator uses literal translation,abbreviation,omission to fix lexical difficulties.As for the syntactical difficulties,the translator shifts the perspective of sentences,transitions the sentence patterns,and literally translates and recasts the compound-complex sentence making the translation more accurate and faithful to the source text.After translation,the translator polishes the translation by multi-times proofreading and revising.The translator also reflects the translation process and summarizes the experience in power publicity translation.The translator hopes that this report on translation practice can increase people’s awareness of the importance of translation energy and power news updates accurately and effectively,which can contribute positively to promote the globalization of China’s power industry.
