This report is the E-C translation of Arrival Stories: Women Share Their Experiences of Becoming Mothers(Excerpt)under the guidance of communicative translation proposed by Peter Newmark.The book was published on April 5,2022,written by American writer Amy Schumer.Firstly,according to the text type,it is non-fiction based on real people and events.Secondly,the text function is both informative and vocative functions,emphasizing the target reader.Thirdly,the text features,it is separate chapters,written in the first person.Finally,considering the author’s intention is calling for social concern,the translator chooses the communicative translation,trying to accurately convey the source text to the target reader to ensure authenticity and consider that the target reader can understand and accept the effect.In translation,the translator tries to improve readability and acceptability,dividing into three levels to avoid the differences between Chinese and English.First,the translator uses idioms,conveys emotion and converts word order on the lexical level to fit the characteristics of the target language.Second,to follow the structure of the target language by adjusting the word order,converting the passive voice into the active one,and using amplification and omission on the syntactic level.Third,the translator tries to convey the actual meaning of the source text by reducing dash and using annotation on the textual level.Hoping the report may provide a reference for scholars.
