A Report On The C-E Translation Practice Of Muke The Ranger:End Game At Loong-Killing Valley From Perspective Of Translation Semiotics

As a part of Chinese literature,children’s literature conveys excellent values with childish stories and plays an important role in cross-cultural communication and dissemination.Therefore,the translation of picture books is necessary and important.Picture book literature is a multimodal text containing text,image and sound symbols,it is necessary to find the correlation and complementarity among the symbols at each level in the translation process and to grasp the ideological connotation conveyed by each symbol in order to naturally and accurately interpret the storyline and ideological meaning of picture books.This translation practice takes the picture book Muke the Ranger: End Game at Loong-killing Valley as the source text,and takes translation semiotics as the guiding theory.Muke the Ranger: End Game at Loong-killing Valley is a typical multimodal text containing both textual and pictorial symbols,and was selected in 2019 for the publication project of excellent young people’s books by authority,with distinctive characters and strong contrasts in the picture book.Under the guidance of translation semiotics,the correspondence of three layers of symbols,namely,the texture layer,the effective layer and the thinking layer,is used to enable the smooth transmission of information in the source language,reproduce the typographic format of the original text,reshape the characters’ images and recreate their emotions in the translated language,so that the translation is more fluent and conforms to the reading habits of the target language readers.This translation practice report is divided into four chapters.Chapter 1introduces the source of the translation practice text,the background and significance of the selected topic;Chapter 2 mainly describes the translation process,analyzes the characteristics of the text and gives a theoretical overview of translation semiotics,and analyzes the practical applicability of translation semiotics;Chapter 3 conducts a case study in conjunction with the theory,taking the conversion of symbolic information at three levels as an example,and explains how to realize the translation process in conversion of symbols in two languages.Through this practice,it is concluded that the flexible application of translation semiotics theory in the process of translating picture books can reproduce the expression effect of the source text to a certain extent and can also enhance the readability of the translated text.Therefore,translation semiotics has a strong guiding effect on the translation practice of picture books.
