| In recent years,AI technology has rapidly developed and its application areas are constantly broadening and deepening.As a result,products of smart home have become the spotlight.The book Guide for the Development of Smart Home System is mainly based on STM32 series microprocessors and cloud service platforms to realize the development of smart home,with professional languages and numerous long sentences which making challenges to translation guided by a theory.This report is written based on the translation of the first three chapters from Guide for the Development of Smart Home System in terms of Skopos Theory.Skopos Theory was put forward by Hans J.Vermeer in 1978,consisting of three principles which are Skopos Rule,Coherence Rule and Fidelity Rule and making a relatively complete theory framework.This report,under the guidance of Skopos Theory,aims to explore English translation of Chinese long sentences in the book Guide for the Development of Smart Home System.Under the guidance of Skopos Rule,verb-predicate long sentences are translated by keeping original order and shifting part of speech.Paratactic complex long sentences are translated through dividing into short sentences,adding connectives and using present participles under the guidance of Coherence Rule.And non-subject long sentences are translated by converting into passive voice,supplying “It” as a subject and choosing subjects from the source text under the guidance of Fidelity Rule.After the translation practice,the following conclusions can be drawn: Chinese long sentences are complex in structure and objective in contents,requiring faithful translation and coherent sentences with clear logic to achieve translation purposes.In terms of Skopos Theory,translation purposes of long sentences from Chinese to English can be achieved.And translation is different when guided by various theories,requiring necessary attempts which can enrich translation theory and translation practice to provide experience for other scholars. |
