| Playing an indispensable role in international trade,such legal documents as purchase agreements and commission agreements,which are content-focused,stipulate the rights and obligations of parties involved and help maintain the international market order.Hence,translations of such documents are of vital importance in better fulfilling their roles.Proposed by Reiss(2014),Text Typology Theory argues that the information of a content-focused text should be fully,naturally and effectively represented in translation.With the guidance of this theory,the author of this report undertook the English-Chinese translation of “XX Company Purchase Agreement”,a task entrusted by Jinan Bohai Translation Co.,Ltd.As a whole,the report contains six chapters.Introductory in nature,Chapter One describes the background and the significance of the task and presents the organization of the report.Chapter Two makes an overall description of the source text,mainly focusing upon its major ideas and linguistic features.Chapter Three presents the translation process,which includes pre-translation preparations,while-translation challenges and post-translation revisions.As the theoretical underpinning of the report,Chapter Four consists of the background and the major arguments of Text Typology Theory and its applicability to the task.With the guidance of this theory,Chapter Five makes case analyses of the translation techniques frequently adopted during the fulfillment of the task.To be specific,the translation techniques on the lexical level include word-class conversion,amplification and omission,the translation techniques on the syntactic level contain voice conversion,division and word-order shift,and the translation techniques on the textual level encompass cohesive-device adjustment and restructuring.As the end of the report,Chapter Six makes a summary of the translation techniques the author of the report adopted during the fulfillment of the task and reflects on her pains and gains from it. |
