Overburden of students’ homework has always been a widely criticized issue in China’s education.The promulgation of the “double reduction” policy has raised the requirement to reduce the homework burden of students in compulsory education to a new level,and various regions throughout the country have implemented reforms in accordance with this policy.In this context,how to design scientific and effective English homework has become the focus of social attention.Therefore,this study aims to solve the following three questions:(1)What is the current situation of English homework in junior high schools in T City under the background of “double reduction”?(2)What are the problems in the investigated English homework ? What are the causes of these problems?(3)What are the strategies for solving the above problems?In this study,300 grade three students from three junior high schools in T City were taken as questionnaire survey objects,and 6 grade three teachers from these three schools were taken as interview objects to investigate the current situation of English homework in junior high schools in T City.According to the results of students’ questionnaire survey and teachers’ interview,it is found that there are the following problems in junior high school English homework: teachers and students have deviation in understanding of homework view;the content of homework fails to reduce the burden and improve the quality;homework design fails to fully reflect competence education;the effect of homework evaluation and feedback is not ideal;there is a lack of support for the improvement of homework.The reasons for the possible occurrence of these problems are as follows: teachers grasp of the “double reduction” policy needs to be improved;teachers lack the scientific concept of homework design;students’ personality differences and common problems;the lack of supporting system.In view of the problems found,combined with the theoretical basis,this paper puts forward the improvement strategy of junior high school English homework: reshape the concept of homework under the background of “double reduction”;reduce the burden and improve the quality of homework;pay attention to competence education guidelines;improve the effect of homework feedback;optimize the homework management system.
